Cell-Based and Arraying Applications

The Echo liquid handler can be used to transfer liquid to microplates as well as other desinations at high density.  For example, media containing cells can be transferred between microplates, or from microplates to glass slides.  The acoustic energy used for transfer is gentle and does not affect cell viability.

Precision of the spot placement also creates new application opportunities for the Echo liquid handler for protein crystallography or protein arrays—applications which require precise spot placement.

Echo liquid transfer is accurate enough to transfer reagents directly on top of one another.  In this example, Cy3 (green) and Cy5 (red) dyes in DMSO were transferred onto a microscope slide.  The drop placement was precise enough to allow for exact spotting of the Cy5 dye on top of the Cy3 dye in the middle of the slide (yellow).
